This was the unexpectedly beautiful garden of a B&B in Barton-Upon-Humber where we stayed recently. The gorgeous Queen Anne house was on a main road but here at the back of the house the garden stretched out into a formal avenue leading out to a wild garden. It was impossible to tell that the road and town were so close and blackbirds were singing sweetly from the trees. A fabulous surprise and bonus to our stay.

I am finding it very difficult to decide how to structure my ukgardenimages website. There is so much to show and so many gardens that I want to celebrate, but also I want to keep the site beautiful and simple and not clutter it! I think that the best thing to do is to regularly change the display so that it is always fresh and interesting.

On the subject of simplicity, this image from a Japanese garden is surely the epitome of that. Is is a mountain or a pebble?
